Backend Developer (Integration Specialist)

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer with proven experience in architecting, developing, and integrating robust backend services with modern frontend applications (React, Next.js, etc.). This role demands deep technical expertise, cloud proficiency (Google Cloud / AWS / Azure), and a passion for delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions. You will collaborate with frontend engineers, DevOps teams, and product managers to design, implement, and optimise APIs, ensuring seamless integration between backend services and modern frontend interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful & GraphQL APIs
• Architect microservices or modular monolith systems to support large-scale applications
• Security: Implement secure authentication & authorisation mechanisms (OAuth 2.0, JWT, etc.)
• Collaborate with React/Next.js frontend developers to ensure flawless API integration
• Optimise backend responses for frontend performance, including caching, pagination, and efficient data serialisation
• Design, query, and optimise relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Ensure data consistency, security, and high availability
• Cloud Deployment: Deploy, monitor, and scale backend applications on Google Cloud / AWS / Azure
• Utilise managed services (Cloud Functions, Lambda, API Gateway, etc.) for efficient architecture
• Implement best practices for backend performance tuning and load handling
• Ensure compliance with security standards (OWASP, GDPR, etc.)
• Work in cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical deliverables
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) pipelines

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend development experience with proven project delivery
• Strong proficiency in Node.js / Express.js / NestJS or similar backend frameworks
• Advanced knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript in backend environments
• Proficient in designing and integrating RESTful & GraphQL APIs with modern frontends (React, Next.js)
• Databases: Expertise in SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Firestore, DynamoDB)
• Hands-on deployment and management experience with Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimisation skills
• Knowledge of security best practices including API security, authentication/authorisation (OAuth 2.0, JWT), and compliance standards
• Familiarity with serverless architectures, message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka, Pub/Sub), and real-time communication (WebSockets)
